Whether it’s recording my own Foley for a game, recording a song, or engineering a session, sound is my passion. Below is a sampling of some of the work I’ve done that involves audio.
Games
Plant Party (2025)
Game for 2025 Wilmington IO game jam. I composed ten tracks in one day for this game and I am very happy with how it came out!
Funkdance Rap-omatic (2025)
This game was created for the 2025 Unreal Fellowship. I composed/recorded/mixed nine tracks for the game and promotional material, and wrote the blueprint code to handle synchronization of beat playback, lyric playback, dancing, line delivery, and camera control.
Orc vs Wizard Rap Battle
In this battle you play as the wizard, facing off against the orc and his posse. The orc goes first spitting six bars. Each of those bars is selected randomly in real time from a bank of four options per bar. I created the system to do this selection as well as synchronize playback with the beat using the Quartz audio system in Unreal.
The player then has six bars to respond. Each bar has a minimum of four selectable options, of which the player is shown three at random. In addition to those four options, the player is shown additional choices based on what the orc said in their rhyme. As you can see in this clip, the orc mentions breaking the player’s wizard’s staff, and so the player receives an option to respond to the diss. Bars the player chooses can then unlock further contextual bars, creating a sequence of rhymes. I wrote/recorded about 50 unique bars for the player’s verse to include contextual responses to the orc’s verse.
Adventurer vs Some Random Dog Rap Battle
This was a very silly last minute addition to the game. The player faces off against a pug who does nothing but bark and will always win the battle. This was created as a final level to essentially give the illusion that there was more content beyond it, if only the player could beat the pug, which they never can. There’s a lot less interesting happening under the hood from a contextual bar selection perspective, but I’m including it here because it’s a rap battle against a dog.
Teatime Samurai Remastered (2024)
Teatime Samurai is a game I released version 1.0 of in 2015. I created it in Game Maker Studio 1.4, which at that point was already not state of the art. In 2024 I revisited the game to give it a fresh coat of paint. One of those layers of paint was redoing the audio system and adding new music.
Game Maker doesn’t have a lot of the niceties that come with modern game engines. Doing things like synchronizing audio to play at certain frames of an animation is something you have to write the code for yourself (and which I did). I wrote many such features while developing the Teatime Samurai Remastered, and also wrote a new soundtrack for the main game, which loops different sections based on the player’s score–so as your score gets higher, the soundtrack gets more intense.
